Commish ruling changes, part 2

Post by PoRnHack » Sat Feb 06, 2016 2:59 pm

I decided to make a separate post because despite my note in post 1, half the folks posting there are debating about rules like spirit rule, # of ZHL games rule, etc. It was never the point of the post!!!!

Point is we need some more formal methods for commish to change or reverse rules. Can't just drop a bombshell in mid-game after decisions had already been made that may have been impacted by original ruling. So I urge the powers that be to make up a reasonable rule for Management ruling changes. I was hoping someone with experience would already chime in on this, but got nothing out of that thread. So here are some ideas you may want to consider:

1. Pornhack for commish (just kidding :))
2. Prior to making a ruling, commish should take his time to evaluate. If uncertain, it should be OK to take a 5 min breather and consult others or research rules or stats to verify how many games have been played, etc.
3. If a ruling is reversed or changed for some reason, the ruler should interrupt with pause (like a referee style) and figure shit out on his own. I know I got some ppl asking me "well why didnt you pause to argue at game time?" Reasons were a) i thought enemy team is DQ'ed already for disobeying rule, b) i expected commish to handle it when BlueDream inquired WTF, c) given inconsistent rulings as it was i was not about to use up my pause time or remake when it was no fault of our team.

Bottom line is please add a rule for Management rulings and how to handle changes in those rulings when such changes occur mid-game!! Thank you

I still thank all who responded to my original post, but it was not my intention to cry about the loss or Teroh's ruling. He is allowed to use his judgment, but changes in judgment mid-game are not appropriate.
And side note: nice of Teroh to be one of few who didnt BM my post. He may have made a mistake or mishandled the situation, at least he is not being immature like some other posters "oh well he had under 6 games" who don't even get the gist of the post. I respect Teroh for that (not much else :D).

It's very difficult to balance between taking time to make sure you have all the info and making a decision before people get impatient, especially when you have 8 people waiting on you. And it's perfectly okay for you to pause and ask for clarification on what is going on if things are confusing. I'm sure the great Kurt will take this into account and be the commish this league needs :D

Valid concern, one which should be taking into consideration WHEN MAKING THE NEW RULE.
New rule could also be something simple like "no ruling changes/reversals in mid-game. Have to wait for new game" or take the damn 5 min. I'd rather be patient and within correct context than rush into game and get rekt by rule changes.

Actually what I expected when this happened in game 2 was something like "disqualified/ez win for us" and then enemy team has right to challenge shtty ruling. Instead now I am here wondering what "coulda" been had we stuck with original game 1 team for game 2. When we changed it was literally "ez pz game, no challenge here". Some of the sitouts in g2 questioned WTF why? And answer literally was "ez pz game and in case we somehow lose you can still have g3". Obviously these claims were not based on Halo sitting in net all of a sudden.
