New mechanics testing

Post by themusic » Wed Apr 06, 2016 12:48 pm

Hello.

Id like to explore some new mechanics that may add depth or awesomeness to the game. I propose having a -beta command which can be voted on in standard, which activates a set of features to test in real gameplay. These will be features that have been recently discussed which really just need to be experienced in real games to validate their viability.

1. Goalies: explore new goalie mechanics. Each game both goalies will be a random unit type, which has a set of new fine tuned abilities. This will result in new ability combination types and different styles of play. This way both teams can play a full game against that goalie type, and watch/talk to eachother about combos and strategies.
2. Fighting: ability for fights to occur and powerplays to occur.
3. Shotclock: a team must take a shot on net when having possession for x amount of time.

Would this mode be used if implemented? If so, are there any mechanics we feel would be good to test out in addition or instead of the ones mentioned? Heres some other ideas:

-Removing boost steal from skaters
-Ability to cancel a charging shot
-If goalie has shield ability, ability to cancel shield early
-Force player to hold down mouse when onetimering (will result in less overall latency)

YES!! I'm really curious to see how the variety of goalie types can play into the current meta

This is sick and so are the other ideas you suggested, they all increase difficulty which is nice

Siege tank model op.

Just to be clear, i would hope the changes being tested bring about more "depth" and "playstyle options" without directly increasing overall difficulty. That would probably be the manifesto of zh, extremely easy to learn and impossible to master. Not looking to change that in any way, just feel like more depth would be a welcomed change if done right.. layered on top of solid base gameplay

That's why i'm skeptical of that onetimer change. It will make it harder (maybe?) but the ingame latency reduction may be worth it.

NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE that's gonna be so cool to test
Edit : maybe we can train the double evac for goalie or the "50 points to be charged everytime, if u ff or evac, you use 20 points" thing

Sounds awesome!
Can't wait to test that.

Would it be possible to get that on EU aswell? :D
I believe there are a lot of ppl out there who'd like to test that there ;)

very nice additions to the game music! I think that it would be a good idea to remove the boost steal since it is hard to determine where the boost will steal will end. Also, a steal would be determined more on skill in timing a click than just pressing a button and stealing a button.
I might be on in a week or so...

I think the way to go would be to check if the lag reduction is really worth it, like REALLY noticeable

I would personally use redline mode with option beta for testing options, but I guess there are some things you cant test in red line mode.
Otherwise - it`s awesome :D

I know some people really would like to test game where you can see opposite team`s one timers.
