Step 1: Play goalie
Step 2: Get internet with 10 ms
Step 3: Get decent reaction skills
Step 4: Throw 3 seasons to get undervalued
Step 5: Win season
Step 6: Get overvalued next season and backstabbed by previous team owner
Step 7: Lock skater and play the game for fun, improving comes naturally from muscle memory of doing the right thing.

A few notes on muscle memory though:
  • It exists for the sole purpose of the body (or mind?) having to use less energy on things that it does often.
Just like in regular muscle training you would(example) get the most benefit from the LAST bench presses, the same way muscle memory starts to "grow" most when you keep practicing when you are already tired (optimally - your hands are shaking).
The path of least resistance, in this case, is doing the things you are used doing. Which most of us do all the time during games. Which are thanks to muscle memory having "memorized" something already. To get the muscle memory to learn something better, you would have to consciously try to do the things that are better. Practice them until they become 2nd nature to you.
We experience something, evaluate it, and then we feel an emotional response according to that evaluation.
Reason is emotion's slave and exists to rationalize emotional experience.
Rationalize emotional response in the present experience.
