The second episode has arrived! With a video at the end that showcases Ozy and his inability to field!
Mets, I very much love the fact that you chose EU Pub games for examples of bad defense
As a goalie, there are 2 things I would have liked you put a bit more emphasis on (though, you did on 1 and 2nd would never happen in a "proper" game)
1. For the defenders to be more consistent/predictable for the sake of trust! I know you mentioned that but really wished you put way more emphasis on that. I feel like its better for me to ignore a defender who changes "his role"
every second - higher chance the save the next shot. And I can then focus on enemy team instead of my own defender
2. In a situation where 2 enemy offense players and 1 ally defender come towards this side of the field and they are at or pre mid-field: the defender has the choice to either cover long, or cover pass, or pressure (to slow down or lower shot power of puckholder)
- the defenders always seem to choose covering the passing lane, which is the one option out of those 3 options that I care the least them to do
. Sure, when they get closer, my wish list changes. But before that I rather they just pressure. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm not. Wish there was such situation in the video described. :/
3. In teams with dedicated defenders that try to stay as the last man and don't rotate - many of them seem to sit at the middle of the map waiting for the time when enemy team comes to offense. Isn't there some way they can prepare better for the enemy offense? I know you would never put such things in your videos because they are sub-optimal strategies to begin with, they are not part of the metagame and that it probably
doesn't happen in ZHL level games. But it's a commonly seen thing and so if we keep an open mind and imagine a world where it is metagame or proper play - is standing at middle really the best they can do?
44:23 You showcased the MAJORITY of Warsong Stickmasters games from last EUDL season.
Like first half of regular season it was almost every one of their attacks (or so it felt)
, just not as extreme as your example. That picture, when the arrow appeared, I had immediate flashback of last EUDL season.
Memory tells me that Junky defender was the first one who didn't just try to stand between Pudel and the support puck holder but rather just stay ON Pudel.
