Pinkamena's Guide to Shootouts (Zealot - Forward)

Post by Pinkamena » Mon Jun 23, 2014 10:36 pm

I've been noticing lately that some people have been struggling to score during shootouts, or if they are scoring, that they are using too much effort to score. I have a much easier way to score during shootouts, and with this technique I've scored on 12/13 shots.

So what is this technique? It's actually pretty simple.

Step 1: Pick up the Puck
- Pretty self-explanatory

Step 2: Staging the Shot
- What you'll want to do is move your skater to about halfway between the goal and center ice, then immediately press x and click in center ice, turning your skater away from the goalbox. Press s after your skater has completed the turn, keeping your skater from moving any more. After this is done, begin charging your shot.
+ Note: You can also start charging your shot before it is staged.

Step 3: Taking the Shot (Goalie Stays in Goalbox)
- This is the tricky part. Just kidding, this is really simple, too. What you'll want to do is position your cursor to either just below the top goalpost or just above the bottom goalpost and wait. Once you see an opening, take the shot, and you'll generally be greeted by a score.
+ If you're looking to get more complex, wait for the goalie to inevitably fall into a pattern of movements, and take the shot when the goalie is moving away from the spot of your cursor.

Step 3: Taking the Shot (Goalie Leaves Goalbox)

- This is the really tricky part. Again, just kidding, but it is a bit more complex than if the goalie stays in the goalbox. Basically, what you do is you stand still as the goalie comes towards your skater. Then what you'll do is you'll click far above or below the goalie and use the check ability to dash past them. Then you'll position your cursor in the center of the goalbox (or just above/just below, depending on which way you check) and shoot.
+ If you're looking to get more complex, click up or down to get the goalie to 'panic' and check towards your stick, and then proceed to check in the opposite direction and take the easy shot.

Step 4: Success!

- That's it! Using this technique you'll be sure to score time and time again against any level of goalie! If anyone has any questions or comments about this guide, just post them in the comment section below. Thanks, and good luck!

Goalies are getting wise to this strategy pretty quickly. Against a poor goalie, this works almost every time, but against a good goalie, I'm 0% and have started getting familiar with the more traditional juking and trying to bait a bad Z/X. As soon as they see you stop they begin approaching to cut down the angle but not so much that they can't dash to intercept if you try to dash around them. It's actually fairly easy to shut down, because it's tough to move around them quickly from a standstill.

But it's pretty easy to transition out of this style, so it's a good starting point.

This is the cheese way to doing shootouts considering how easy it is to do. This is not accepted on NA server as people will refer to you as "a bitch" if you do it this way.

^ There's also this motivation for not doing it, I forgot to mention that.
