I didn’t sign up for this tournament but I have seen a bit of it in the stream today. From what I can tell it has been a success overall, but there has been a problem with picks that were MIA. I think like 3 or 4 teams had to play their games 3v4 or with FAs while on the other hand some teams had 5 available players and had to bench someone.
Obviously this resulted in a very bad experience for those specific teams and for the players that couldn’t play because they were benched. Therefore I suggest 2 different simple solutions.
Solution 1) Remove anyone from the draft board who is not online to the point of the draft. Anybody who can’t be online to the draft but will be online later needs to inform a tournament organizer beforehand.
Solution 2) Owners can only pick 4 players, everyone who didn’t get drafted gets thrown into a pool of FAs. If a team is missing someone he can pick someone out of this FA pool who then will be part of this team.
In my opinion the main priority should be to have games that are atleast 4v4 since having to play 3v4 or not being able to play at all due to MIA players creates the worst possible experience. These suggestions would fix that.
The minor problem about having benched people would also get fixed with 2) with the disadvantage of might having a few people that can't play at all. But on the other hand being the 5th on the team usually means that you get only little or no play time (depending on the owner), so this might actually increase the chance of getting into a team and play full time. I personally would prefer to play on a team where I'm actually needed and not only get to play based on the kindness of the owner.
Just throwing these ideas out so it can be considered by the organizers
