Season 9 Registration Link: https://goo.gl/forms/5qfN1kvf0M0GYt3Q2
Current Signups can be seen here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... =831222226

I’d like to welcome you all to the beginning of Zealot Hockey League, Season 9. Here are the rolls of the new management team:
Commissioner: Blitzerg
Vice Commissioner: Stealth
League Managers: Meepomart, Sly, Swift
Stats-Team(confirmed): Blitzerg, Marker
Casting-Team(confirmed): Sly, Blitzerg, Mets, Marker, Perplex, Watermelon

-If you are interested in stats keeping or casting please post below or contact league management.

-Below is a list of the most important changes that are being made over the course of Season 9 for both the Zealot Hockey League and the Zealot Hockey Probe League. *Anything highlighted in orange has been revisited from the first signup thread.

1. Team Count(ZHL): We will be switching to an 8 team league to promote greater competition for the Zealot Hockey League.

2. Team Count (ZHPL): The Zealot Hockey Probe League is now a completely separate league from the Zealot Hockey League and will be a 10-team league.

3. Game Count(ZHL): Each team in ZHL will play a total of 14 games throughout the season.

4. Game Count(ZHPL): Each team in ZHPL will play a total of 14 games throughout the season.

5. Expected Attendance: You can sign up for 50% Lock, 75%, or 90%+. A 50% lock mandates that a player may only play in a maximum of 8 out of 14 matches, but a 75% and 90%+ player may play all games. Players who are placed back into the pool of players to draft in rounds 5-7 (on both a ZHL team and a ZHPL team) and are locked 50% will be able to play their allotted 50% lock for both ZHL and ZHPL meaning that a 6th round player drafted in the ZHL draft as well as the ZHPL draft will not only be able to play 8/14 games in the ZHL, but also 10/18 games in the ZHPL.

6. Attendance Accountability: Players will be held responsible to show up to more than ¼ of the games that they signed-up to play, otherwise they will be forced into a 50% locked attendance next season.
Example: If Blitzerg signs up for 90%+ and only plays three games, then he will be locked into a 50% attendance next season. All numbers are rounded to the nearest even number (75% of 14 games is 10.5, meaning that if a player signs up for 75% they are committing to 10 games, and if they don’t show up for at least 2 games they will be held accountable).

7. Scheduling: Games will now be played two at a time (double headers), you will play your home and away games in a one hour time block. All Zealot Hockey League games will be played on Sundays only; whereas, Zealot Hockey Probe League games are still being decided on in relation to schedule. Check out the link to vote on your preferred weekday for probe games: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=2226.

8. Reschedules: In order to accommodate your potentially locked players you have will now have two regular reschedules for pairs of games and two flex reschedules for individual games. A regular reschedule requires an entire double header be rescheduled (No exceptions). A flex reschedule is not only flexible in the manner that the time stamp doesn't have to be decided immediately when rescheduling, and also a flexible reschedule can specifically reschedule ONLY ONE MATCH (not a double header). The grace period for being able to reschedule a game has been reduced to 4 hours. This means that it is now OK to have both owners agree to a reschedule 5 hours before game time and legally reschedule their game using a flex or regular reschedule.

9. Trades: Trades are making a return during the 9th season of the Zealot Hockey League. The trade deadline for Zealot Hockey League will be after the 4th game played (2nd Sunday). The trade deadline for the Zealot Hockey Probe League will be after the 8th game played (4th round of games).

10. Draft - Type: Snake draft (for both ZHL and ZHPL). The Zealot Hockey League draft will cover rounds 1-7. The players within rounds 5-7 will also be replaced into the Zealot Hockey Probe League draft pool, and will be a part of the Zealot Hockey Probe League as well as the Zealot Hockey League. This means that some players will be on different Zealot Hockey League franchises then they are Zealot Hockey Probe League franchises.

11. Draft Date: Both drafts will be conducted on either the 17th or 18th of December before the winter break. You will then have the following three weeks of the Winter Break to develop chemistry with your teams if you so wish to do so, prior to the first game of the season.

12. First Game Date: The Zealot Hockey League will begin play on the 8th of January. The Zealot Hockey Probe League will begin play the week 2nd-7th of January (prior to the start of the Zealot Hockey League).

13. Probe League Captains/Owners: Probe League will retain it’s own managers, and will have 10 individual probe owners.

14. Cross-Conferences: Cross conferences are being eliminated and mandatory central games are a thing of the past. For every double header, one game will be home and the other will be an away game.

15. Probe League Re-Draft: For the Zealot Hockey Probe League after either the 6th or 8th game, owners will be able to select 5 players that will be protected from the Probe League Re-Draft. The remaining players on all probe teams that aren’t selected to be protected, will then be thrown into a pool of other players, who will then be re-drafted by probe owners. The last placed team in probe league at the time of the Re-Draft will be the first to draft, etc.

*************Signup Deadline is December 14th at 11:59 PM EST.
*************Owners Signup Deadline is December 11th at 11:59 PM EST.

If you have any real advice please feel free to share with us. As you can all see the league management for Season 9 is doing their absolute best to better the league that not only WE but also that YOU ALL have a say in what we all think is best. Several things that will be decided by a community vote are now in the new Season 9 signup form, so if you already signed up, be sure to go back and fill out some of those questions in your signups.

The trade deadline is way too early. After the 4th game, no team knows their current stance of whether they need to make a change or not. It should be the 7th game. At the halfway point of the season, no team is completely out of it, and teams are more aware of their needs in order to further succeed. Many teams start out 3 or 4 wins in a row to start the season, then crash and burn. Having the trade deadline after the 7th game (halfway point) better allows teams to know their real needs.

Also I still do not think there is enough teams. With an 8,10 team system that still leaves out the possibility of 8 players not playing that would have been playing last season. If you argue that the free agent mid draft will fix it, it won''t. It will only fix a fraction of it. Most of the probe players that get benched in the first one or two games won't stick around long enough for that draft to have any interest in the game. They will be long gone. We are trying to grow the community, not shrink it.

I agree with alert, teams should have a little more time to figure out if they wanna make any changes to their team or not.

Teams are known 3 weeks before the opening game. Week Game 4 trade deadline is fine.

Edited. Red is incorrect, green is correct.

obviously they are known. I thought I was fine after me kurt cafca and vapour started off 3-0 on the season, then further crashed without a goalie. How would I know that my team is fine after 4 games when we looked good? Names on paper does not make a team what it is.

If a team takes advantage of the 3 weeks of pre-season, that means they are doing scrimmages. They can easily find out how competitive they'll be. If they don't take advantage of the 3 weeks, then ya they might not know where their weaknesses are. It really shouldnt take more than 5 weeks of playing together to determine that.

If you don't realize where your weaknesses are, you aren't looking critically enough.
